Our 5th, and final bonspiel, of the regular season took place this past weekend at the RA Centre. A big thank you is owed to the RA Centre for their hospitality.
This bonspiel was particularly exciting for us as it was the largest we’ve ever hosted. 12 teams, representing seven different clubs, competed in the two day event. Round robin play saw Team’s Winchester (Royal Canadian Navy), Hampton (Lancaster) and LeBlanc emerge from their pools undefeated. Each qualified for the A-Side playoffs, with Team Winchester getting an automatic bye to the finals having the shortest cumulative draw to the button distance amongst the three teams. Team’s Gallinger (North Grenville), Périard (Buckingham) and Fleck (Ottawa) all qualified for the B-Side playoffs, with Périard getting an automatic bye to the finals having the shortest cumulative draw to the button distance amongst those teams.
Sunday’s action started with our A and B-Side semi-finals featuring Hampton vs. LeBlanc on the A-Side and Fleck vs. Gallinger on the B-Side. Both LeBlanc and Gallinger would emerge victorious in those games moving them into their respective finals. Winchester and Leblanc would go shot for shot for most of the game, with LeBlanc eventually taking a few in the 7th and pulling away. Congratulations goes to Tem LeBlanc for their 2nd win in as many months. On the B-Side Périard and Gallinger would also go shot for shot until the 7th when Gallinger would score a big end. Not to be outdone, Périard played a fantastic 8th, but his final draw to tie the game would slip just a little deep. Congratulations Team Gallinger for taking our B-Side Final!
This season we have been so fortunate to have Capital Curling Supplies partner with us to help grow the Ottawa Colts Curling Series and curling amongst people new to the sport in general. The lucky recipient of the broom, courtesy of Capital Curling Supplies, at this past bonspiel was Kayla Helliker. Congratulations Kayla, and thank you very much to our wonderful partners at Capital Curling Supplies for their amazing generosity! Please visit them inside the Ottawa Curling Club for any supplies you might need.
With that comes the end of our regular season, but don’t worry there’s still one more spiel to come. The top eight teams from the regular season have qualified for our Season Final being hosted by the Metcalfe Curling Club the weekend of March 30-31. Please feel free to come out and support the teams that have qualified. Keep an eye on both our website (www.coltscurling.com) and our social media accounts for the schedule.
